Background :The extensive family of COL gene products (collagens) is composed of several chain types, including fibril-forming interstitial collagens (types I, II, III and V) and basement membrane collagens (type IV), each type containing multiple isoforms. Collagens are fibrous, extracellular matrix proteins with high tensile strength and are the major components of connective tissue, such as tendons and cartilage. All collagens contain a triple helix domain and frequently show lateral self-association in order to form complex connective tissues. Several collagens also play a role in cell adhesion, important for maintaining normal tissue architecture and function. In cartilage, Collagen Type II constitutes the bulk of the fibril. Sensitization with Collagen Type II induces an erosive polyarthritis in rats, mice and higher primates which can resemble rheumatoid arthritis and relapsing polychrondritis.

Product :Mouse IgG1. Liquid in PBS containing 50% glycerol, 0.2% BSA and 0.01% sodium azide.

Purification&Purity :The antibody was affinity-purified from mouse antiserum by affinity-chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen and the purity is > 95% (by SDS-PAGE).

Storage&Stability :Store at 4°C short term. Aliquot and store at -20°C long term. Avoid freeze-thaw cycles.

Specificity :Recognizes endogenous levels of Collagen 2 alpha 1 protein.

Immunohistochemical analysis of Collagen 2 alpha 1 staining in human cartilage formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0). The section was then incubated with the antibody at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.
